Paving
Paving
is done with a slipform paver traveling in continuous
placement. The starting point of this placement is a
ragged edge, which is later cut away with a slab saw.
The finishing point is the same. The Bunyan Striker is
used to connect the slabs in a plug, which is similar to
a bridge approach. The Bunyan Striker is popular because
a quick setup can provide powerful control of surface
grade in a low slump placement of irregular shape.
This
is also very useful in ramps of irregular shape. The
slipform paver will not configure to edges which are not
parallel. The Bunyan Striker allows operators to switch
to a longer tube as the slab becomes wider.
Some highway builders choose to use the Bunyan Striker
as a straightedge carried upon the mullboards of the
slipform paver. This verifies the accuracy of the
slipform paver and provides a way to fix the errors,
which may occur. Some find this useful in satisfying
inspectors at the output of the slipform paver as well
as measures against surface grinding. |
